Getting started

Writing a profile that gets replies

Most profiles are ignored for the same three reasons. None of them is about how you look, and all three take an evening to fix.

A matrimonial profile is doing one job: helping the right family recognise you quickly, and helping the wrong one move on without wasting anybody's time. Both halves matter. A profile written to appeal to everyone reaches nobody in particular.

Fill in the boring fields first

Education, employment, city, height, diet, family details. These are the fields people filter on, and an empty one does not read as private — it reads as a profile that was abandoned halfway. If a filter excludes you because a field is blank, you never appear at all, and you will never know it happened.

The same applies to what you are looking for. Wide preferences do not get you more replies; they get you more of the wrong ones, and then you spend a month declining them politely.

Write the "about" section like you talk

The most common opening line on any matrimony site is some version of "I am a simple person from a decent family with good values." It is true of almost everyone, which is exactly why it tells a reader nothing. Say the specific thing instead.

  • What you actually do all day, in plain words — not the job title, the work.
  • What your Sunday looks like. This tells someone more about living with you than a list of adjectives ever will.
  • One thing you would not compromise on, and one thing you genuinely do not mind either way.
  • If a parent or sibling is writing the profile, say so. Families read that as care, not as distance.

Four honest sentences beat two polished paragraphs. Read it aloud before you save it; if it sounds like a job application, rewrite it.

Photographs: clear, recent, and yours

One clear photograph of your face in ordinary daylight does more than five posed studio shots. Avoid heavy filters, sunglasses and group photographs where nobody can tell which person you are. A recent photograph also spares everyone the awkwardness of a first meeting that does not match the profile.

Get verified before you start reaching out

Every account here is mobile-verified. Government ID verification is an extra step, and it is the single thing most likely to get a cautious family to reply — not because a badge proves you are a good match, but because it removes the first doubt they have. If you are Christian, an endorsement from your own pastor or priest does the same work in a community where that reference carries real weight.

A badge confirms one specific check and nothing more. That is precisely why it is worth having: it makes a narrow, checkable promise instead of a vague one.

Then be the one who replies

Interest that goes unanswered for three weeks is a decision, just a slower and less kind one. Answer within a day or two, even when the answer is no. It costs a sentence, and a search where everyone does it is better for you too.
