Delete your account

You can erase your marriageproposal.in account and the personal data attached to it at any time — from the app, from this website, or by writing to us if you can no longer sign in. This page explains each route, and exactly what is removed and what is kept.

How to delete your account

Any one of these is enough. The first two are immediate and need nothing from us.

  1. 1. In the Android or iOS app

    1. Open Profile, then Edit profile.
    2. Scroll to the Account section at the bottom.
    3. Tap Delete all my data, then confirm with Delete everything.

Takes effect immediately. You are signed out, and the account is gone before the screen closes.

  2. 2. On this website

    1. Sign in and open Settings.
    2. Find Delete my account at the bottom of the page.
    3. Type DELETE to confirm, then choose Delete permanently.

The same control and the same effect as the app — the two share one API.

    Open Settings
  3. 3. By email, if you cannot sign in

    1. Write to privacy@marriageproposal.in with the subject "Account deletion request".
    2. Include the mobile number the account is registered under.
    3. Reply to our verification message so we know the request is yours.

We verify that a request comes from the account holder before acting on it, then delete the account for you. No app install and no active membership is needed.

    privacy@marriageproposal.in

An emailed request is completed within 30 days at the outside — the timeline set by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 — and usually the same working day. Deletion through the app or the website happens the moment you confirm it.

What is deleted

All of it, at once, and permanently. This is a real erasure and not a hidden or suspended account.

  • Your login, your password and the mobile number you registered with.
  • Your profile in full: name, age, photographs, family details, education, work and partner preferences.
  • Your jathakam — birth details, charts and any compatibility results saved against them.
  • Interests you sent and received, your shortlist, and your match history.
  • Every chat conversation and message. These also disappear from the other member’s app, because a conversation belongs to both of you.
  • Contact numbers you unlocked, and the record of anyone who unlocked yours.
  • Saved searches, blocked-member list, notification preferences and your push token.
  • Your membership, wallet balance, and the in-app record of what you paid for.
  • Any wedding workspace, guest list and published invitation you created. The invitation’s web address stops working the moment the account goes.
  • Photographs, artwork and report files you uploaded, deleted from our file storage as well as from the database that referenced them.

What is kept, and why

Four things outlive a deletion. Each is here because the law requires it or because erasing it would harm someone else — none of it is kept to market to you, and none of it is used to reconstruct your profile.

Safety reports you filed about another member
The complaint stays open, with your identity removed from it. A report that vanished when its author closed their account would let anyone clear a case against a member by deleting themselves, and the member the report protects is not you.
Payment, invoice and tax records
Held for the periods Indian tax and company law require. These live with our payment gateway and our books rather than in your profile, and they are not used to contact you or to rebuild an account.
Records an ongoing legal process needs
A court order, a police request or a grievance still being answered. Nothing is retained on this basis once the matter is closed.
Encrypted backups, until they rotate out
Routine database backups may still hold a copy until they are overwritten on their normal cycle. They exist to recover from a failure and are never used to restore an account someone asked us to delete.

Section 7 of the Privacy Policy sets out these retention periods in full, alongside your rights under the DPDP Act.

Before you delete

Ask about a refund first
Refund eligibility is checked against which profiles you opened, and deletion erases that record — so a claim made afterwards cannot be assessed. Refund Policy
Membership time is not carried over
Remaining validity and any unused profile views lapse when the account is deleted, and are not refunded.
It cannot be undone
There is no recovery window and no archive to restore from. Registering again later creates a genuinely new account with nothing in it.

If something goes wrong

Write to privacy@marriageproposal.in and we will complete the deletion by hand. If a request is not answered, it goes to Aby Jacob, our Grievance Officer under the IT Rules, 2021, at info@marriageproposal.in.
