1. Accepting these Terms
This document is an electronic record under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it. It does not require a physical or digital signature. It is published as required by Rule 3(1)(a) of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
By tapping "Send code", creating a profile, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be notified in the app before they take effect, and continuing to use the Service after that means you accept the updated Terms.
2. Who may use the Service
The Service is a matrimonial service intended only for people who are legally free to marry under Indian law and who are genuinely looking for a marriage partner for themselves or for a family member.
- You must be at least 18 years old and competent to contract under section 11 of the Indian Contract Act, 1872.
- A profile may only be created for a person who has attained the legal age of marriage in India — 21 years for men and 18 years for women — as required by the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006.
- If you create a profile for someone else (for example, a parent or guardian creating a profile for a son or daughter), you confirm that you have that person's consent to publish their details and to receive proposals on their behalf.
- You must not use the Service if you are already married and your marriage subsists, unless your personal law permits the proposed marriage and you have disclosed your marital status truthfully.
- One person may hold only one account, registered on a mobile number that belongs to them.
You are responsible for everything done through your account. Keep your password and OTPs to yourself, and tell us immediately if you think someone else has access to your account.
3. What we are, and what we are not
We are an intermediary within the meaning of section 2(1)(w) of the Information Technology Act, 2000. We provide a platform on which members publish their own profiles and contact each other. We are not a marriage bureau, a broker, or an agent of any member.
- We do not arrange, negotiate or solemnise marriages, and we charge no commission on any marriage.
- Profile information is provided by members. Except for the specific checks described below, we do not independently verify it.
- Badges such as "Mobile verified", "ID verified" or a pastor endorsement mean only that the specific check named on the badge was completed. They are not a character reference and are not a guarantee about the member.
- A compatibility percentage, match suggestion or search ranking is a convenience feature. It is not advice, and it says nothing about whether a marriage will succeed.
- We do not guarantee that you will find a match, receive replies, or that any number of profiles will be relevant to you.
4. Rules of conduct and prohibited content
You must not host, display, upload, publish, transmit or share any information through the Service that (this list follows Rule 3(1)(b) of the IT Rules, 2021):
- belongs to another person and to which you do not have any right;
- is obscene, pornographic, paedophilic, invasive of another's privacy including bodily privacy, insulting or harassing on the basis of gender, racially or ethnically objectionable, or otherwise inconsistent with or contrary to the laws in force;
- is harmful to a child;
- infringes any patent, trademark, copyright or other proprietary right;
- deceives or misleads the addressee about the origin of the message, or knowingly and intentionally communicates any information which is patently false or misleading in nature but may reasonably be perceived as a fact;
- impersonates another person;
- threatens the unity, integrity, defence, security or sovereignty of India, friendly relations with foreign States, or public order, or causes incitement to the commission of any cognisable offence, or prevents investigation of any offence, or is insulting to any foreign State;
- contains a software virus or any other computer code, file or program designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer resource;
- violates any law for the time being in force.
In addition, and specific to a matrimonial platform, you must not:
- demand, offer, negotiate or discuss dowry in any form. Demanding or giving dowry is an offence under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. We remove such content and may report it to the authorities;
- ask any member for money, gifts, financial help, bank details, card details, OTPs or investment support, or send money to a member you have not met and independently verified;
- publish false information about your age, marital status, income, education, health, caste, religion or family;
- upload a photograph that is not of the person whose profile it is, or a photograph of anyone else without their consent;
- put phone numbers, email addresses, social-media handles or payment identifiers into your profile text or chat. The app blocks this — contact details are shared only through the paid, consent-based unlock described in section 6;
- save, screenshot, re-publish, forward or use another member's photos or details for any purpose other than considering a marriage proposal;
- use the Service for brokerage, matchmaking as a business, advertising, recruitment, data collection, scraping or any automated access;
- harass, stalk, threaten or repeatedly contact a member who has declined your interest or blocked you.
You keep ownership of everything you upload. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, display and share that content within the Service for the purpose of matchmaking, to the extent your privacy settings allow, and to keep copies as required by law. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for records we must retain by law.
5. Safety
Photos on the Service are served through our own proxy and are watermarked for accounts on the free tier, and screenshots are blocked on Android profile and photo screens. These are deterrents, not guarantees: no app can prevent someone from photographing a screen with another device, and iOS does not permit screenshot blocking. Please upload only what you are comfortable sharing.
6. Paid services, credits and contact unlocks
Some features are paid. The price, what it includes and its validity are shown to you in the app before you pay, in Indian Rupees and inclusive of applicable taxes unless stated otherwise. That checkout screen is the authoritative statement of price; these Terms describe only how the paid features work.
- Registration: a one-time fee that activates your account for a fixed period and includes an allotment of profile views (contact unlocks).
- Monthly access: keeps your account active after the first period. It does not add new profile views.
- Extra profiles: additional contact unlocks, bought in the quantity you choose.
- Call wallet: in-app audio and video calls are billed per minute from a prepaid wallet balance, at the rate shown before the call starts.
- ID verification and assurance checks: one-time paid checks carried out by third-party partners.
Unlocking a member's contact details requires an active plan, an available profile view, and that member's consent to share their details. If your plan lapses, contacts you have already unlocked are withheld until you renew; on renewal they are restored without any further charge.
Payments are processed by a payment gateway registered in India. We do not receive or store your card, UPI or net-banking credentials. We currently do not enable automatic renewal — each renewal is a payment you authorise. A GST invoice is available on request at support@marriageproposal.in.
7. Cancellation and refunds
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Profile → Account. Deleting your account ends your plan; the remaining validity and any unused profile views lapse.
Because paid features are digital and are made available immediately, fees already paid are non-refundable once the service has been availed — for example once a profile view has been used or a call has been billed. This does not affect your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
Registration is the one exception. If you have registered but have not opened a single profile — no profile view used, no member's contact details unlocked — you may ask for a full refund of the registration fee within 7 days of paying it. We return the whole amount to the original payment method and do not deduct payment-gateway charges. Once you have opened even one profile the registration fee has been availed, and it is no longer refundable.
Ask us before you delete your account. Deleting it removes the record of which profiles you opened, which is what we check a registration refund claim against.
- If money is debited but the plan, credits or wallet balance is not activated, write to us and we will either activate it or refund the amount to the original payment method, ordinarily within 7 to 10 working days of confirming the failure with the gateway.
- Duplicate payments for the same purchase are refunded in full.
- If we suspend or terminate your account for breach of these Terms, unused fees are not refunded.
- If we permanently withdraw a paid feature you have already paid for, we will refund the unused portion on a pro-rata basis.
Refund requests should be sent to support@marriageproposal.in with your registered mobile number and the payment reference.
8. Third-party services and vendors
The Service uses third parties to work: a payment gateway for payments, an identity-verification partner for the ID Verified badge, a real-time communication provider for in-app calls, and a cloud messaging provider for notifications. Their handling of your data is described in our Privacy Policy.
Vendors listed in the app (laboratories, asset verification, credit checks, and other wedding-related services) are independent businesses. Listing is not an endorsement. Any contract for their services is between you and them, and we are not responsible for the services they provide, their pricing or their conduct — though we do want to hear about it if a listed vendor treats you badly.
9. Reporting content and getting it removed
You can report a profile, message or photo from within the app, or write to our Grievance Officer. We act on reports as required by the IT Rules, 2021:
- we acknowledge a complaint within 24 hours and dispose of it within 15 days of receipt;
- complaints about content that exposes a private area of a person, shows a person in full or partial nudity or in a sexual act, or is in the nature of impersonation including morphed images, are acted on within 24 hours of the complaint;
- we may remove or disable access to content, and suspend or terminate an account, where content or conduct breaches these Terms or the law, or where we are required to do so by a court order or by a lawful government direction.
Where we remove content or restrict an account, we will tell the affected member what was removed and why, and give them a chance to respond, except where the law requires otherwise.
10. Grievance redressal
If something has gone wrong — content, conduct, a payment, or how we have handled your data — please contact our Grievance Officer, appointed under Rule 3(2) of the IT Rules, 2021 and section 13 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
We acknowledge every grievance within 24 hours and resolve it within 15 days. If you are not satisfied with our decision on a content complaint, you may appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee constituted under Rule 3A of the IT Rules, 2021, within 30 days of our decision.
As a consumer you may also approach the consumer commissions under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, including through the e-Daakhil portal, or the National Consumer Helpline on 1915.
11. Disclaimers and limits on our liability
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, that profile information is accurate, or that any member is who they say they are.
We are not responsible for the conduct of any member, online or offline, for any decision you take about a marriage, or for any loss arising from your dealings with another member or with a listed vendor. You are responsible for satisfying yourself about a prospective match before you commit.
To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim connected with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under Indian law, including liability for fraud, or your rights as a consumer.
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and reasonable legal costs arising from your breach of these Terms, from content you publish, or from your breach of any law.
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate an account, with notice where practicable, if a member breaches these Terms, publishes prohibited content, impersonates another person, demands dowry, solicits money, uses the Service for a purpose other than genuine matrimonial search, or where we are required to do so by law.
You may delete your account at any time from Profile → Account. Deletion removes your profile from search and from other members' views, and erases your personal data except records we are required to keep under Indian tax, company and IT law.
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to the next paragraph, the courts at Kochi, Kerala have exclusive jurisdiction.
If a dispute is not resolved through our grievance process within 30 days, either party may refer it to arbitration by a sole arbitrator under the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The seat and venue of arbitration will be Kochi, Kerala and the language will be English. This clause does not prevent you, as a consumer, from approaching a consumer commission or any other forum available to you under Indian law.
14. Language and contact
These Terms are published in English. If you would like them explained in your language, write to us or call our support number and we will help. Where a translation is provided and there is any conflict, the English version prevails.
