What a digital wedding invitation costs in India

What digital wedding invitations cost in India, how the pricing models differ, and an honest comparison against printing and posting physical cards.

Digital wedding invitations in India are sold three ways: free with a watermark, a one-time unlock per wedding, or a subscription. A one-time unlock is usually between a few hundred and a couple of thousand rupees. Animated video invitations made to order cost more, because somebody is doing design work. The comparison against print is not really about the card — it is about postage, and about how many people you can invite once the cost per guest is nearly zero.

The three pricing models

ModelTypical shapeWatch for
Free with watermarkBuild and preview free; the vendor's branding stays on the cardWhether "free" survives sharing, and where the watermark sits
One-time unlockA single payment per wedding, then unlimited guestsWhether it is per design or per wedding, and whether it expires
SubscriptionMonthly, often bundled with a website builderCancelling after the wedding, and whether the link dies with the plan
Custom / made to orderA designer or animator produces a card for youRevision limits, and how long delivery takes

The one that catches people out is the third. A subscription invitation whose link stops working when the plan lapses is a problem discovered after the wedding, when a guest tries to find the venue on the morning of, or a year later when the couple wants the page back. Ask what happens to the link.

What actually changes the price

  • Animation. A static card and a card with motion, parallax and a countdown are different amounts of work.
  • Whether guest management is included, or sold as a separate tier.
  • Whether RSVP is per wedding or per function — multi-event RSVP is meaningfully more complex to build.
  • A custom link. Most vendors charge for a named URL rather than a generated code.
  • Number of guests. Some vendors price per guest, which gets expensive at Indian wedding scale.
  • Languages. Serving a card in two languages is usually free digitally and doubles the cost in print.

What it costs here

Stated plainly so this guide is not vague about its own publisher:

ItemPriceWhat it includes
Building and previewingFreeChoose a design, fill it in, and see exactly what guests will see
Invitation unlock₹499 one-time, per weddingAll five designs, no watermark, unlimited guests, RSVP and guest management
Custom link₹100 one-timeYour names in the address instead of a generated code

There is no per-guest charge and no subscription. We say "free to build and preview" rather than "free wedding invitation", because publishing without a watermark is the paid step and the difference matters.

Digital versus printed: the real comparison

The usual comparison — "a printed card costs ₹X each, a digital one is free" — is not the useful one, because most Indian families send both. The honest framing is what each is for.

Printed cardsDigital invitation
Cost driverPer card, plus postage and courierPer wedding, flat
Scales to 800 guestsLinearly, painfullyAt no extra cost
Elders and formalityStill expected, especially for close familyIncreasingly accepted, not yet universal
Changes after sendingImpossibleEdit the page; everyone sees the current version
DirectionsA printed addressA map link that opens in the guest's phone
HeadcountPhone callsRSVP with numbers, per function
KeepsakeYesNo — this is a real loss

What most families settle on: print a smaller run for elders, close family and the people whose houses you will visit with the card in hand, and send the digital version to everyone else. That is usually cheaper than printing for the full list and better than digital alone, because the printed card does a social job the link cannot.

Questions to ask before paying

  1. Does the link expire? Ask for a straight answer, in writing if it is a subscription.
  2. Is there a watermark on the free tier, and where does it appear when the card is shared?
  3. Is RSVP per function or only for the wedding as a whole?
  4. Can I edit after sending, and do guests see the update without a new link?
  5. Does it work on a mid-range Android phone on 4G? Open a demo on one before you pay.
  6. Can I get the guest list out — a CSV, an export — or is it locked in?

The mid-range Android test is the one to actually do rather than assume. Your invitation will be opened overwhelmingly on phones, on mobile data, by people who will not wait eight seconds for an animation to load.
