Malayalam wedding cards are usually bilingual: Malayalam for the invitation itself and English for the addresses, dates and RSVP. This guide gives the standard lines in Malayalam script with transliteration, for Hindu, Christian and Muslim weddings, plus the vocabulary that changes between them.

Practical notes

  • Keep addresses, dates and phone numbers in English even on a Malayalam card. Guests copy them into maps and phones, and transliterated digits cause mistakes.
  • Malayalam script needs more line height than Latin. If your card looks cramped, that is usually the cause rather than the font size.
  • Where the family is spread between Kerala and the Gulf, printing both languages on one card is normal and reads as considered rather than cluttered.
  • For a digital invitation, sending Malayalam and English versions of the same card costs nothing — which is worth doing when older relatives read one and cousins abroad read the other.
