Christian weddings

For the nuptial mass and the reception

Betrothal, church service and reception on one link — with the service named the way your denomination names it, the celebrant and parish given properly, and a scripture line at the head.

The detail most often wrong on a Christian wedding invitation in India is the name of the service. A Catholic nuptial mass, a Syro-Malankara marriage during the Holy Qurbana, an Orthodox sacrament of Holy Matrimony and a Marthoma or CSI solemnisation are not interchangeable, and a card that calls one of them by another's name tells every guest that a template was used and not read.

These designs let you name the service, the parish and the celebrant as your church does, and keep the betrothal, the ceremony and the reception as separate cards on one link.

Naming the service

Use the form your own parish uses. The card follows what you type; this is a reference, not a menu.

DenominationThe serviceOn the card
Roman & Syro-Malabar CatholicNuptial MassThe Nuptial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m.
Syro-Malankara CatholicMarriage during Holy QurbanaThe Marriage will be solemnised during the Holy Qurbana

  • Parish and celebrant

Named properly — "St. Mary's Forane Church, Pala, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kurian officiating" — because in Kerala the parish identifies the family as much as the church.

  • A scripture line at the head

Mark 10:9, 1 Corinthians 13:4, Ruth 1:16 — set above the hosts, where these traditionally sit on the card.

  • Betrothal as its own card

The nischayam is a separate occasion weeks earlier with its own guest list, and it gets its own card rather than a footnote.

  • RSVP for church and reception

Separate counts, since the reception list is usually the longer of the two.

  • Directions to church and hall

A map link each — and for a parish church, that matters more than usual, since several in a district share a name.

  • A quiet design

Grace is ivory, blush and sage, set in an editorial serif, revealed by moving light rather than movement. The least ornamented of the five.

A nuptial mass card, as it reads

Copy this and change the names. Betrothal and reception wording is in our guide.

Questions

Can I name my own denomination and service?
Yes. You type the name of the service, the parish and the celebrant, and the card renders what you enter.
Can I include a Bible verse?
Yes, at the head of the card above the hosts, which is where these traditionally sit.
Can the betrothal be a separate card?
Yes. Each function is its own card with its own date, venue and RSVP.
Can the invitation be in Malayalam?
Yes. Twelve Indian languages, and the same link renders in whichever the reader has chosen.
